The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, JAAA, has finally broken its silence on the matter concerning its sponsorship agreement with Puma.
In a release on Tuesday the JAAA confirmed it has renewed the sponsorship contract with Puma.
There’s been months of speculation regarding the Puma deal, which was set to expire at the end of December.
The speculation heightened as rival company Adidas tabled a record breaking deal of over JM $5 billion over five years, a deal which they later increased to close to JM $6 billion per year.
Both proposals were rejected by the JAAA, who in their statement says the new Puma deal “far exceeds that of the competitor”.
The JAAA’s hierarchy was unable to give specifics on the new deal, citing an attached confidentiality preventing the organisation from making any revelations, even to their members.
The JAAA were also not prepared to say when the new deal was inked.
The JAAA also added it suffered losses of over JM $79 million over the past year.
The Adidas proposal was littered with add-ons to include licensing and digital rights, as well as royalties at 15 per cent of net sales on all JAAA branded products on an annual basis, and cash incentives for medals won at major competitions.
