TRACK AND Field fans will have one more international meet to witness on Saturday, May 11, in Kingston.

The Jamaica Athletics Invitational (JAI) will feature 14 key events for elite athletes from Jamaica, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe. The 150-minute event will also have an entertainment element for sporting and entertainment fans.

World Athletics has designated the event Silver Continental Tour status.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Ludlow Watts, is happy to have this meet on the calendar and says “fans will be in for a treat with some of the world’s best on show. Jamaica’s dominance in the world is unquestionable and we are intent on putting on a great show as hosts”.

Watts wants a packed stadium for the event, and the team will work assiduously to deliver on that promise, he says.

The athletes will come from the best ahead of the Summer Olympic Games scheduled for Paris in July and serve as a warm-up for countries’ national championships, most of which are scheduled for the end of June.

According to a release from the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, the meet aims to accomplish three key results: Bring quality competition to the fans, provide a platform for athletes to compete, and promote Jamaica as a sport destination.

The meet is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
