THE HOLMWOOD Technical netball train continues to roll as their senior team, playing their penultimate Group II game in the second round of the ISSA Rural Netball competition at Manchester High on Wednesday, posted another impressive performance, destroying St Elizabeth Technical High School 73-10.
Led by goal shooter Jadea Ricketts, goal attack Reneica Jones, centre Jodian Flemmings and goal defence Shaquan Hamilton, the Caroline Graham Powell-coached team got to work early, leading 19-4 in the first quarter.
The lead continued to increase after each quarter with the half ending 36-6. The third quarter ended 57-7 before the eventual 73-10 end came.
Graham Powell said the encounter was the most competitive for her team this season despite the wide margin win.
“So far, this is the most competitive game we have had since the start of the second round. I have seen a number of things which needs to be fixed. We have to go back to the drawing board,” said Graham Powell.
According to Graham Powell, she is not focusing on the quarter-finals which begin next Wednesday.
“We are looking to the finals at this sage as we do not see any team that can give us a problem in the quarterfinals. The girls have been working hard and we are ready to defend our title. We are ready or all comers,” said a very confident Graham Powell.
In their junior encounter, Holmwood, beaten finalists last year, made it three wins from as many games in the second round, blowing away Black River High 63-6.
In other senior games on Wednesday, Denbigh and Manchester High remained unbeaten and on top of their groups.
Denbigh made it two from two in Group III after thumping Tacky High 73-5 at GC Foster College. At Montego Bay Boys’ and Girls’ club, Manchester picked up their third win in a row, beating Rhodes Hall to stay on top in Group I with six points.
Among the juniors, Denbigh got by Iona High 31-13 and Manchester stopped Mt Alvernia 23-3.
