Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton is recovering after an accident this morning involving Dancehall artist Valiant.
Tufton and Valiant both shared a photograph on Instagram of themselves together at the University Hospital of the West Indies on Sunday.
In the caption, the Minister, who had a bandage on his forehead, counted his lucky stars.
“Well this Sunday wasn’t planned! Took a fall this morning on my bicycle. Counting myself very lucky because it could have been worse!! Thanks to God and to all who have me in their prayers and sent messages,” the Minister posted on his Instagram page.
“Also, thanks to Valiant who was involved, for rushing me to UHWI, and to the team of Doctors and Nurses who are currently attending to me.”
This morning media reports surfaced that the Minister was being treated in hospital for a broken wrist he sustained in a cycling accident Sunday morning, which involved “a popular dancehall artist.”
The reports are that Dr. Tufton was riding his bicycle on Charlemont Avenue in St Andrew when he was hit by a motor vehicle driven by the then-unnamed artist.
While the majority of commenters wished the Minister a quick recovery, a few threw in jokes for good measure.
“Thank God him Neva speed off. Speedy recovery,” one wonan quipped, using the title of one of Valiant’s ppoular songs, while another replied: “Actually he did – to the hospital”?.
The comments on Prime Minister Andrew Holness’s Instagram page, where he wished the minister a speedy recovery, were not so nice.
“Carry him dung a KPH for a speedy recovery!!” one woman jeered, while another added: “are up a Princess Margaret for a speedy recovery you’ll know how it feel with them poor service and how it feel fi lost somebody because the doctor them refuse fi help people.”
Another woman dismissed their comments as invalid, maintaining that as Health Minister, Dr Tufton would be given the best care at any of the island’s health facilities: “Weh uh a try seh cause anywhere him go him ago get good treatment.”
Valiant has been having a very interesting few weeks. Just recently, he had to be rescued from a stuck elevator in New York. Some social media users have been lauding the Mad Out deejay for being responsible.
“Valiant was being valiant 👏. Living up to his name,” one person said.
“Get well soon Dr. Tufton. Well done Valiant, brave move in a scary situation,” said one more online user.
