Grand Slam Track League Launches Kingston Leg

Grand Slam Track, the global track league founded by four time Olympic champion Michael Johnson, launched it’s Kingston leg of the event Monday morning at the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.

The launch came just hours after it was revealed that Kingston would join Los Angeles as one of the four cities set to host a slam event, with two more locations expected to be announced this week.

The first of the four meet stops will be at the National Stadium from April 4-6 next year with 48 of the world’s best track athletes already locked in, including Jamaicans Rushell Clayton, Roshawn Clarke and Ackera Nugent.

The athletes designated as racers will be joined by several challengers to be selected by the Grand Slam Racing committee.

Johnson, the former world record holder over 200 metres and 400 metres, says fans will be treated to a spectacle.

The series is a track only affair. Johnson explains why they were not keen on including field events.

Tickets for the Jamaica leg of Grand Slam Track will go on sale on December 6 at 10 am local time.
