Gramps Morgan Joins Charity To Build St. Ann Health Centre

The philanthropy of Reggae artist Gramps Morgan will continue as he has committed himself to join other goodwill ambassadors in raising funds for the construction of the Mary Issa Health Centre in St. Ann, Jamaica.

The health centre will give free access to children and adolescents and is being built by the Issa Trust Foundation, which is the charity arm of Couple Resorts.

“I believe events like this will bring about awareness very much so the power of music is a vehicle and can bring any message. Just think of a church without music or sporting event, music is the vehicle and we as the artists are the messengers,” Gramps told DancehallMag.

Gramps explained that his love for children was a factor in joining the initiative.

“Most of the time I like to get involved with charities that involve children, children are the future. I always tell ministers of government that many times when we are trying to make change, we have to start with young children, children that are in universities and high schools already make up their mind and decisions on what they’re going to do in life, so I believe they can be a great change with starting with the young children, “he said.

“Collaborations for great causes are hard to fail. I believe that people coming together, amplifies messages and causes, and even the awareness which is most important so I’m very excited about collaborating with this foundation and third world who brought to my attention big up Johnny Tiger,” Gramps added.

“I believe the show being in New York City, which is truly a melting pot of culture ethnicity food you name it anything is possible in this city I think it is our job to bring about the awareness, the media and amplify this message so people who are interested in it can be attracted to the amazing cause, he added.

He shared a personal anecdote that also inspired his commitment to philanthropy.

“My life experiences have taught me and showed me so much living in the parish of St. Thomas, and seeing things needed as a hospital has made me understand that it is necessary to use my voice to bring attention to some things that even governments may not pay attention to, this is the power of music,” he said.

“I hope that this will be inspiring others to say that if it was their children that got sick one day, they would want to have the best healthcare, so this is to make one reflect on their family, their own lives, and what treatment they would like those who have influence should definitely look into doing this type of work I’m excited to be a part of this and I’m excited to also see this project be completed and even expand to the 14 parishes of Jamaica.” he added.

“Do you remember projects like The We are the World Song and Farm Aid? I believe those projects should go back to when Quincy Jones brought together so many artists to address hunger. I think this needs to be done more, artists are not politicians or peoples parents, but I do believe that we have a social responsibility to use our voices whenever possible to bring a bottle awareness. This is the power of music,” he expressed.

The gala titled ‘For the Children’ will be held at the luxurious Cipriani located at 110 East 42nd Street on May 11, 2024.
