The government has rejected an application for an integrated resort development in St. James.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke gave the update in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

An integrated resort development must have a minimum of 1,000 hotel rooms, of which 500 must be luxury rooms. Additionally, the development must have a minimum capital investment of US $400 million.

Minister Clarke told parliament that he sees no flaw in the recommendation by the enterprise team.

Meanwhile, Dr. Clarke says the government intends to reopen the application process for additional integrated resort developments.

Dr. Clarke says given the interest in Jamaica’s hotel product, he expects strong interest from suitable bidders.
