GLENMUIR HIGH School’s juniors recovered from their opening defeat at the hands of Titchfield to get the better of Dinthill Technical in the second set of games in the second round of the ISSA Rural Schoolgirl Netball competition on Friday.
The Ryan Reid-coached seniors were also successful against Dinthill in their Group III encounter at GC Foster College, winning 55-18 to follow their junior’s 18-10 victory.
While Dinthill’s seniors had won their opening encounter in the second round against Brown’s Town handsomely, they were no match for last year’s beaten finalists, who national under-21 goal shooter Tori Mendez led.
Mendez downed 35 of 39 attempts in three quarters of netball and was ably supported by goal attack, Trishauna Allen, who had 16 goals from 19.
Glenmuir were dominant in every quarter, leading 22-4 in the opening stanza, before rushing to a 35-8 halftime lead. At the end of the third quarter, the disparity only widened, with Glenmuir only allowing two goals against them to lead 48-10.
For the juniors, goal shooter Lacey-Ann Gordon shot 12 from 18 and was aided by goal attack, Shakera Rodney’s five from 10 in their victory over Dinthill.
Dinthill’s juniors, like their seniors, had come into the game riding high on a dominant display in their opening fixture. After dismissing Marcus Garvey Technical 50-1 earlier this week, they found Glenmuir much stickier opponents.
After a quarter, Dinthill found themselves 5-4 down in the contest, and fell further behind by half-time, albeit only slightly at 9-7.
Glenmuir had a more aggressive third quarter, jumping to a 14-8 lead, but Dinthill never really went away, just conceding four fourth-stanza goals as they tried to get back into the game. Unfortunately, while they defended well to end the encounter, their offence suffered as well, and they only managed two successful possessions, which weren’t enough to stave off a loss.
