One of the good stories coming from the Mayberry Swim classic and the high school season overall has been the rise of CARIFTA debutante Emanuelle Spence of Hillel.
Spence was the top performer in the 12 and under 50 metre breaststroke improving at each meet.
At the ISSA meet she took gold in 39.12 seconds as well as the victory at the ASAJ meet in 38-point-21.
Spence won Silver at the Mayberry meet in 38.17 seconds.
She also improved at every competition in the 100 metre breaststroke.
At the ISSA and ASAJ meets the events were open and at the Mayberry she swam in the 12 and under category.
Spence placed 8th in 1-minute-30-point-56 seconds and was the youngest competitor in the top 8, while at ASAJ she secured the Silver to the older Kia Alert in 1:26.76 seconds.
And at Mayberry she won Gold in a Personal Best of 1:25.55 seconds.
Spence says qualifying for Carifta was one of the goals she set at the beginning of the season.
