Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for e-Learning Jamaica Limited (e-LJAM), Andrew Lee, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to driving national progress through technological advancements.
Speaking with JIS News recently, Mr. Lee emphasised that technological innovation is a necessity as Jamaica progresses towards becoming a digital society.
Central to the organisation’s mission is the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
According to the CEO, this strategic focus on STEM education is deemed fundamental to propelling Jamaica towards a path of continuous advancement and prosperity.
“We are empowering our youth with the tools that would allow for them to be creative, to solve problems, to think a lot more critically and, of course, this will lead to our nation progressing,” he maintained .
Mr. Lee further noted that e-LJAM is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the technology sector, considering that women have historically been under-represented in STEM fields.
In alignment with this vision, the entity is actively pursuing initiatives to inspire confidence and ambition in future female leaders.
This includes its sponsorship of the recently concluded Girls in ICT Day Crea+her hackathon as well as other undertakings to enable young girls to explore their potential in technology.
“We cannot stress enough how important diversity and inclusivity are, and we want to ensure that this (the underrepresentation of women in the technology sector) stops,” Mr. Lee said.
e-Learning Jamaica Limited is an agency of the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport with responsibility for promoting the integration and infusion of technology in the public education system.
