Drake made a generous gesture, gifting US$10,000 (approximately J$1.5 million) to a female fan who triumphed in a lookalike competition. The God's Plan hitmaker, known for his acts of kindness, got involved when he learned that Casuals Cakery in his hometown of Toronto was hosting a doppelganger contest in his honour. The rapper reached out to the bakery directly and pledged to contribute the "main prize" for the event.
In a screenshot shared by the bakery, Drake sent a message that read: "I'm adding 10 bands to the lookalike contest. For the main prize (sic)." The team at Casuals Cakery couldn't contain their excitement, responding: "Just give me a min to stop hyperventilating this moment. I can't believe this is ur account and u know about this omg i love you (sic)."
They later captioned the post with: "I can barely type and a whole shock went through my body. But yes this is true and real. I hope the Drake doppelgangers ready LETSSSSSSSS GOOOOOOO. You think ur gonna win US$10 bands (sic)."
The competition was fierce, but it was Makayla Chambers, known as 'Girl Drake',who took home the prize. Makayla wowed the judges by channeling Drake's look, donning an oversized beige jumper, black trousers, a fake goatee, and her hair styled in pigtails, closely resembling the Hotline Bling artiste's appearance earlier this year.
Other contestants included 'Ozempic Drake', 'Denim Drake', and 'Durag Drake', each offering their own unique take on the rapper's iconic style. Drake himself shared the fun on his Instagram Story, posting several clips of the contest with laughing emojis and the caption, "I love this city."
Lookalike competitions have been gaining popularity, with other celebrity-themed events recently making headlines. In October, a Timothee Chalamet lookalike contest in New York City was interrupted by police, though not before the Wonka star himself showed up to the gathering at Washington Square Park.
Last month, actor Glen Powell got in on the fun, recording a video for his fans in Austin, Texas, announcing that the winner of his lookalike contest would land a role in his next film.
"I want to pull off a heist, and we don't need masks because we all have the same face. It's the perfect crime! They can't get all of us because we are one: a criminal Glenterprise. I am completely serious. This is a cash-value prize of US$6 billion."
Maxwell Braunstein emerged as the winner of that contest, taking home US$5, a cowboy hat, and a seal of approval from Powell's mother, Cyndy Powell, who was in attendance to support the event.
Back in Toronto, however, it was Girl Drake who walked away with the grand US$10,000 prize, thanks to Drake's unexpected yet incredibly generous gesture.
