Clarke Urges Lawmakers to Stay the Course Toward Fiscal Independence

Outgoing finance minister Dr. Nigel Clarke is urging his parliamentary colleagues to stay the course of Jamaica’s fiscal independence.

In what was his last address in the House of Representatives, Dr. Clarke looked back on what he called a record of performance but reminding parliament that there is still much work to be done.

My heart is full! That’s how Dr. Clarke started what will be his final statement in the House of Representatives.

Dr. Clarke says he’s strived to ensure the country can achieve its full potential. He made it clear that this opportunity should not be squandered.

Pointing to the reduction of Jamaica’s debt, which is set to reach 68 per cent by the end of the current fiscal year, Dr. Clarke says the task for Jamaica’s next finance minister is to change the composition of that debt.

Minister Clarke also urged his colleagues not to lose sight of what is important in improving the lives and livelihoods of the Jamaican people.
