Dancehall’s ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle has received a plaque from iTunes for headlining the “Tropical House Cruises to Jamaica The Asian Edition album.

Gayle outlined that the plaque represents motivation and will be strategically placed in his recording studio so that other visitors will feel motivated as they walk through the door.

“The plaque will go up in my Triple Century Records studio at my home in Kingston and it will represent motivation for my team and other artists who come to work there,” he said.

He shared how overjoyed he was to finally lay his hands on the plaque as he anticipated its arrival.

“It feels really good to receive the plaque for an accomplishment in music and to know I have 2 songs on an album with Ms. Lauryn Hill, Sizzla and Capleton. I was very excited because even though the album hit #1 last year, I am just receiving the plaque. I checked on its arrival for months until it came,” he admitted.

“Well, the two songs I have on the album are collabs. One with Camar Flava and one with a female singer named Shav A. The album was being marketed in India and the Asian market so since I am big there through cricket, they made me the face of the album,” he said.

While he was the face of marketing and promotion, he was quick to attribute the success and accolades to a collective effort.

“Well to reach the #1 album spot in reggae on iTunes in America you must eclipse Bob Marley whose greatness I would never compare myself to in music. It’s similar to accomplishments in sports. There must be a team effort, and you must face the giants,” he said.

“I’ve invested a lot of resources in developing a label and studio so overcoming the obstacles in the industry and the fierce competition in the industry is a challenge in itself. The marketing and promotion was worldwide and we got a lot of support from mainstream media in Jamaica, USA and the diaspora,” he added.

The album features songs like Inna Di Ghetto by Morgan Heritage and TeamWork by Sizzla.
