POLICE are investigating the possibly fraudulent purchase of a boat engine from a Cedros fisherman with a fraudulent cheque on December 7.
The 59-year-old fisherman told police his wife placed an ad on Facebook Marketplace for the 50-horsepower Yamaha boat engine for $40,000.
He said the buyer contacted his wife on December 6 and made arrangements to purchase the engine the next day. He said the buyer contacted his wife on December 7 and informed her two men would be coming in his place to inspect the engine and make the purchase.
The men arrived at the Bonasse Village, Cedros boat shed around 1.40 pm where the engine was stored and paid his wife via cheque.
However, when they visited Royal Bank Point Fortin on December 9 to cash it, they were informed the cheque was fraudulent.
