CAPRI Wants Gov’t to be More Transparent in Budgeting Process

The Caribbean Policy Research Institute, CAPRI, is calling on the government to improve transparency in the budgeting process.

Researcher at CAPRI, Morghan Phillips, says while Jamaica’s transparency score in its budgeting process is above the global average, it still falls below the international benchmark.

On Thursday, CAPRI’s Budget Scorecard 2024 report evaluated Jamaica’s budget process, grading it on public participation, oversight and transparency.

Phillips says the country’s score regarding public participation has not improved since 2019. According to CAPRI, Jamaica has also not shown much improvement in its oversight framework.
