Apryl Jaye releases first love song

In recent years, singer Apryl Jaye has shown off her jazz/reggae sound to audiences at venues like Strawberry Hill.

Now she has released her first song, titled I Don't Wanna Love Again. The single, which blends her musical influences, is produced by Nicolas Groskopf, a guitarist who has worked with acts such as Jesse Royal, OMI and Tessanne Chin.

"I'm often told I have a jazzy tone, and I feel jazz has deeply shaped how I sing. My phrasing and the way I approach and exit a line are heavily influenced by jazz's emphasis on timing, space, and reinterpretation. I rarely sing a song exactly as written; I might come in early or late on a bar, or I'll embellish a single lyric. I bring that fluidity to every song I perform," said April Jaye, who was born in Dominica, but raised in Tortola and Jamaica.

Delroy Hamilton on bass, drummer Glendon Clarke and keyboardist Miguel Anderson also worked on I Don't Wanna Love Again.
