Reggae artiste Alaine delivered a soulful acoustic session at the Smirnoff Serenades event on Sunday on the rooftop of the District 5 restaurant located at R Hotel, Kingston. The crisp, cool evening air set the tone for a night of sensory splendour with delicious food and complimentary Smirnoff Cocktails on entry for patrons to enjoy while they anticipated the main act.
“Smirnoff Serenades is a unique addition to Kingston’s nightlife, offering a refreshing alternative to the typical party scene on the last Sunday of every month. We at Smirnoff are thrilled to partner with District 5 and R Hotel, bringing our supporters a series of exceptional musical experiences, enhanced by the delectable food and drinks served at the event,” shares Smirnoff Junior Brand Manager Lasana Wilson.
The Jamaican songbird kicked off the acoustic session with her rendition of Rise in Love, a crowd favourite. She then surprised the audience by venturing outside her own discography, covering songs like Snooze by SZA. The atmosphere was filled with love and laughter as patrons sang along with Alaine, attempting to hit all the high notes.
“I love acoustic performances. The music is stripped down to the basics and it is more intimate. It feels like a personal conversation with each person in the audience, which allows you to really connect with them. I remember when this was still a dream, being requested to sing at events and having people sing my songs back to me. I am super grateful for this opportunity,” said Alaine.
Alaine shared that she especially enjoyed performing on home soil before jetting off for shows in Dominica, Belize, New York, and The Bahamas today. She also revealed that fans can look forward to three new songs, including one that features Usain Bolt’s Love-Laced Escape reggae riddim.
